(Press) One of India’s leading newspaper groups, Dainik Bhaskar, has published an advertisement claiming that it is the No. 1 newspaper in India and the third-largest newspaper in the world. The advertisement also presents several figures related to global newspaper circulation and business growth.

(Press) According to the advertisement, Japan’s The Yomiuri Shimbun is the world’s largest newspaper, followed by The Asahi Shimbun in second place. Dainik Bhaskar claims to hold the third position globally.

(Press) The Dainik Bhaskar Group has also highlighted its financial performance. According to the advertisement, the company recorded a 13% CAGR growth in advertising revenue and a 38% increase in Profit After Tax (PAT) between FY22 and FY25. It further stated that advertising revenue, EBITDA, and profits increased during the fourth quarter of FY26.
However, when evaluating claims such as “the world’s third-largest newspaper” or “India’s No. 1 newspaper,” several factors need to be considered. Such rankings may be based on ABC circulation data, readership surveys, WAN-IFRA reports, or company-reported distribution figures. Therefore, the definition of “largest” may vary depending on whether it refers to circulation, readership, revenue, or digital reach.
Against the backdrop of the growing influence of digital platforms, challenges faced by print media, and changing reading habits, media experts consider it important that such claims be independently verified and presented with proper context.
For now, the advertisement has once again sparked discussions about competition in the Indian newspaper industry, circulation figures, and the evolving media business landscape.
