The Vasantrao Deshmukh District-Level Journalism Awards, presented annually by the Shrirampur Municipal Council, have been announced for this year. Senior journalist Mahadev Kulkarni will be honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award, while Ashok Nimbalkar will receive the Main Journalism Award.
The grand award ceremony will be held on July 30 at 4:00 PM at the Govindrao Adik Auditorium of the Municipal Council. Former state ministers Jayant Patil and Balasaheb Thorat will attend the event as chief guests, while Yadu Joshi, Political Editor of Lokmat, will deliver a special lecture.
The event will also be attended by MLA Hemant Ogle, former MLA Bhanudas Murkute, former MLA Bhausaheb Kamble, entrepreneur Vikram Sarda, Municipal Council President Karan Sasane, Deputy President Kanchan Sanap, District Congress President Sachin Gujar, Chief Officer Manoj Ukirde, Education Board Chairman Rajendra Pawar, Babasaheb Dighe, Dnyaneshwar Murkute and Chairman Sudhir Navale, along with several other dignitaries.
Other award recipients this year include Riyaz Deshmukh, Machhindra Deshmukh, Dadasaheb Mhaske, Dilip Kharat and Neelima Ghadge.
Notably, this is the 14th year of the Vasantrao Deshmukh Journalism Awards. The Shrirampur Municipal Council has allocated ₹3 lakh in its annual budget for the awards. It was also highlighted that Shrirampur Municipal Council is reportedly the only municipal council in Maharashtra to make a dedicated financial provision for journalism awards.
The Municipal Council President, Deputy President, Chief Officer, all councillors, the Shrirampur Journalists’ Association and the Press Club have appealed to journalists, citizens and distinguished members of the journalism fraternity to attend the award ceremony in large numbers.
