(Farmer Loan Waiver) MLA Rohit Pawar of Karjat-Jamkhed and farmer leader Dr. Ajit Navale have strongly criticized the Maharashtra Government after senior officials failed to attend a meeting convened to discuss an unconditional farm loan waiver. Pawar alleged that the incident once again proved the government to be “deceptive, hypocritical, dishonest, and untrustworthy.”
(Farmer Loan Waiver) Pawar said that a meeting with Praveensingh Pardeshi, head of the committee constituted to examine farm loan waiver issues, had been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The delegation reached the venue on time, but no senior official was present. They were informed over the phone at the last moment that the meeting had been cancelled.
Expressing his anger, Pawar said no official would dare cancel such a meeting without the government’s approval. “This is not just an insult to our delegation but to lakhs of farmers across Maharashtra. The government has mocked the sentiments of farmers,” he said.
He further remarked that the government had forced them to “hold a silent dialogue with empty chairs.” Pawar warned that the coming year could be even more difficult for farmers and said the struggle against what he described as the government’s misleading loan waiver policy would now have to be intensified. He appealed to farmers to actively participate in the movement.
(Farmer Loan Waiver) Meanwhile, farmer leader Dr. Ajit Navale said that while visiting the MITRA office for the meeting, they obtained a copy of the Pardeshi Committee’s report.
Navale claimed that after reading the recommendations on farm loan relief, “one is left holding one’s head in disbelief.” He suggested that the committee chief’s absence from the meeting might have been due to the controversial nature of the recommendations contained in the report.
The farm loan waiver issue is once again expected to intensify political confrontation between the government and the opposition, while farmer organisations are also closely monitoring the developments.
