(World News) Five major left-wing political parties in India have strongly condemned what they described as an attack by the United States Navy on Indian sailors and have demanded that the Central Government adopt a firm stance against the United States. The Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India, CPI (ML) Liberation, All India Forward Bloc, and Revolutionary Socialist Party expressed their views in a joint statement released on June 15.

(World News) According to the statement, a U.S. naval attack targeted merchant vessels, including ships carrying Indian sailors, while passing through the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in the deaths of three Indian crew members. The parties claimed that this was the third such attack involving Indian personnel and strongly condemned the incident.

(World News) The left parties criticized the United States, arguing that the alleged action violated the principles of the United Nations Charter and the freedom of international maritime navigation. The statement further accused the U.S. of pursuing hegemonic policies that threaten global peace.
The parties also criticized the BJP-led Central Government, claiming that India’s independent foreign policy was being undermined. They alleged that the government had failed to demand a clear apology and accountability from the United States regarding the deaths of Indian citizens.
The statement further argued that U.S. actions in Iran and the broader West Asian region were affecting the global economy, leading to rising prices of energy, fertilizers, and other essential commodities. The parties called on India, as an important nation of the Global South, to oppose aggressive U.S. policies and take a leadership role in representing developing countries.
They also demanded adequate compensation for the families of the deceased Indian sailors and urged the government to use all available diplomatic channels to ensure accountability. The parties warned that demonstrations against the United States would be organized across the country through their affiliated organizations.
The joint statement was signed by D. Raja of CPI, M.A. Baby of CPI(M), Dipankar Bhattacharya of CPI(ML) Liberation, Manoj Bhattacharya of RSP, and G. Devarajan of the Forward Bloc.
