Mahesh Gopinath Jiwade, a native of Karanji village in Pathardi Taluka, has been recently appointed as the Private Secretary to the Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Shripad Naik. He assumed his duties today.
Mahesh Jiwade is an officer from the 2007 batch of the Indian Administrative Service, having cleared the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) competitive exams. From 2007 to 2023, he served in various capacities in the Income Tax Department, earning recognition for his remarkable performance. As a result, in January 2024, he was selected by the Government of India for the 64th course of the National Defence College (NDC). Selection for the NDC course is considered extremely challenging, with only 3 to 5 positions reserved for civil service officers in India out of eligible officers worldwide. This is a highly prestigious course attended by only a few selected one-star rank defense officers and Joint Secretary-level civil servants of the Government of India. Each year, about 25 officers from friendly foreign countries like the US, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Australia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Nepal, UAE, and others participate in the course. Only Brigadier equivalent officers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as Joint Secretary and Director equivalent officers from Indian civil services, are eligible for this course.
During the 48-week training program that began in January 2024, he was sent to Australia and South Africa to understand the policies and procedures of defense and civil service officers from other countries. NDC is a leading institution in Asia for training skilled officers. Since its inauguration on 27 April 1960 by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of independent India, the college has played a significant role in producing decisive and well-trained expert officers.
Mahesh Jiwade’s performance in the Income Tax Department has also been highly commendable. From 2007 to 2012, while serving as Assistant Commissioner and later as Deputy Commissioner in Pune from 2012 to 2016, he received awards for the best performance for four consecutive years from the Income Tax Department. During the demonetization period, he was transferred to Ahmedabad, Gujarat, as Joint Commissioner, where he managed the situation skillfully and delivered exceptional performance. This led to his promotion to Additional Commissioner in 2020. Since 2021, he has been working in Mumbai.
People from all walks of life have been congratulating him on his success and extending their best wishes for his future endeavors. He attributes his success to the values instilled by his parents and his sense of duty towards social service. He is the son of poetess Vishwa Mata Kusumtai Jiwade and the brother of international cybercrime investigator Nandkumar Jiwade and entrepreneur Chandrakant Jiwade.
