(Politics) The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) Goa has come down heavily on the Directorate of Education (DoE) for issuing a circular that allegedly pushes political narratives into school curricula. Terming the move an attempt to “indoctrinate” students with biased perspectives on the Emergency period, NSUI leaders have demanded its immediate withdrawal.

(Politics) “Schools should remain neutral educational spaces. Involving students in politically sensitive discussions about the Emergency risks exposing them to biased narratives, which may hinder their objective learning and critical thinking,” said Naushad, NSUI Goa Chief.

(Politics) He accused the BJP-led government of using the education system to propagate its political ideology. “This circular has been issued solely to further the BJP’s political agenda and is being forcefully implemented in schools. These are school children — not RSS shakha karyakartas,” he added.

Naushad further lambasted the government’s alleged track record, demanding students be allowed to write essays on what he described as repeated “murders of democracy” — citing examples like job scams, environmental degradation, and deterioration of public infrastructure. “The government should celebrate Hathya Diwas — the day they murdered democracy by toppling elected Congress governments twice,” he said.
NSUI National General Secretary Ahraz Mulla revealed that the organisation had met with DoE officials, who allegedly admitted that the circular was released without stakeholder consultation. “He should be sacked. We will escalate this issue and, if necessary, protest at the Chief Minister’s residence,” Mulla warned.
Adding to the criticism, Shane Rebelo, NSUI State General Secretary, questioned the government’s selectiveness in teaching history. “If history has to be taught, then teach it entirely. Teach how Mahatma Gandhi was killed, why he was killed, and who killed him. School students are not political workers meant to carry forward your ideology,” Rebelo asserted.
Kumar Gauli, also a State General Secretary, stated that true education reform must focus on infrastructure, university rankings, and skill development — not on “rewriting history” for political gains. “Our only demand is the immediate withdrawal of this circular — this is the need of the hour,” he said.
NSUI State Executive Member Maithily Chumbalkar echoed these concerns: “School premises are not political battlegrounds. The government should promote civic education and constitutional values — not play politics on school playgrounds.”
The NSUI has vowed to continue its campaign against the circular, asserting that education must remain free from political interference or further information, contact to Naushad, NSUI Goa 9637194053.
