Ahilyanagar Loses a Living Treasure of History

(Press) Bhushan Gopal Deshmukh, a passionate lover of Ahilyanagar, a distinguished scholar of Nizam-era history, and a dedicated custodian of the city’s cultural heritage, passed away on June 6, 2026. Deshmukh also served as a faculty member at the BJMC Journalism College of the CSRD Institute of Social Work and Research. His demise has cast a shadow of grief over Ahilyanagar’s cultural, historical, and intellectual circles.

(Press) For many years, he introduced citizens to the rich history of Ahilyanagar through the popular Heritage Walk initiative. Through extensive research on the city’s historical monuments, Nizam-era traditions, and cultural heritage, he played a significant role in making local history accessible to the public.

(Press) In addition, Deshmukh served for several years as the Director of Radio Nagar 90.4 FM, operated by Snehalaya. His contribution to providing a platform for social, cultural, and community-oriented issues through media is widely acknowledged.
People from various sectors have expressed their condolences, describing his passing as the loss of a respected historian, a cultural enthusiast, and a true admirer of Ahilyanagar.
His mortal remains will be kept for public homage today from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Radio Nagar, Lendkar Mala, Balikashram Road, Ahilyanagar. The funeral will take place at 6:00 p.m. at Amardham Crematorium.
With the passing of Bhushan Deshmukh, Ahilyanagar has lost a living link to its history and heritage.
