Literature Frederic Jameson, a progressive thinker who consistently theorized modernity and postmodernity, passed away last Sunday, September 22, 2024. Born in 1934, Jameson was an American Marxist critic, thinker, author, and professor. Throughout his career, he studied the impact of capitalism on human culture. At the time of his passing, Jameson was a professor of literature at Duke University in the United States.

Jameson’s main idea was that the changes in literature and other intellectual fields, generally known as postmodernism, which occurred towards the end of the 20th century, were primarily a result of capitalism. He presented this idea in his book Postmodernism, published in 1991.

Apart from Postmodernism, Jameson authored many other books. His work strengthened progressive ideologies, and it is believed that he had a significant influence on liberal politics in the modern world. The Progressive Writers’ Association of Maharashtra paid their humble tribute to Jameson.
