(Article) Today, the importance of technology makes many people prefer to scroll through their timelines rather than get a few hours of sleep. It will not be wrong to say that technology is shaping tomorrow’s society by conquering today’s teenagers. Nowadays, it is being noted that teens seem incapable of having quality face-to-face conversations that last more than two minutes, leading to misunderstandings.

Technology has mainly impacted the education system of students. Every student can easily access the internet for information with regard to their studies and projects, which in turn affects and reduces their concentration and critical thinking due to the fast availability of instant answers. Likewise, excessive screen time and social media usage have led to addiction, distraction, and a decrease in productivity among today’s teens.

Technology’s dark side is leading to several negative impacts on the mental health of teenagers, such as cyberbullying, which can lead to anxiety, depression, and sometimes even suicidal thoughts. While concentrating on the negative aspects of technology, one cannot forget its positive impacts as well. These include global connectivity, which helps in staying in touch with friends and families worldwide and connecting with like-minded people through the rapid growth of social media and messaging apps. Online courses, virtual meetings, and educational apps make learning flexible and fun. Technology also provides career opportunities and promotes health and wellness options for teens in today’s world.

It has been seen that technology has significantly impacted teenagers, bringing both benefits and drawbacks, which need to be balanced by promoting healthy lifestyle habits among teens. This includes encouraging open conversations about safety and cyberbullying, establishing rules and limits on screen time, and ensuring a balance with other activities. Teaching teenagers to critically evaluate online information and identify credible sources is essential. Offline interests should be fostered by motivating participation in sports, clubs, or hobbies that promote physical and social well-being. Regular monitoring and support through proper counselling techniques are also important.
