In a significant move to strengthen electoral processes, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced a substantial increase in the honorarium for Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and other related election personnel. This decision recognizes the vital role they play in maintaining the accuracy and transparency of the voter list.
According to the latest decision, the annual honorarium of BLOs has been doubled, and the remuneration of BLO supervisors has also been increased. This move is expected to further motivate those working on the ground during elections.
Notably, for the first time, Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) will be paid an honorarium. Previously, these officials were not given any separate financial recognition. The ECI has taken this step to acknowledge their critical responsibilities.
The Commission emphasized that, “An accurate and transparent voter list is the backbone of democracy. This revision in honorarium is a way to recognize and respect the hard work of those involved in its preparation and continuous revision.”
