(Press) Dr. Shantanu emphasized the importance of maintaining moral standards in the media. He stated that for global well-being, the Brahma Kumaris work with a vision of universal brotherhood and gender equality. He invited journalists to attend the upcoming National Conference in Mount Abu, scheduled for September 26–30.
Challenges of Fake News and AI in Journalism Highlighted
Dr. Somnath Wadnere raised concerns about the credibility crisis in journalism caused by the rapid rise of social media. He noted that social platforms often lack the accountability, integrity, and purpose of traditional journalism, resulting in the unchecked spread of fake news. He recommended establishing institutional mechanisms for fact-checking and posed the question: Is AI a threat or an opportunity for journalism?
Vitthal Landge remarked that earlier, news dictated space, but today, editors control the narrative. Commercial pressures, ownership interests, and advertising targets often suppress truth-telling in journalism.
Journalistic Integrity and Value-based Reporting Can Guide Society
Speakers including Suresh Patil, Sudhir Lanke, Vijay Singh Holam, and Dr. Suresh Pathare stressed the importance of value-based journalism in an era of declining ethics. Veteran journalist Ramdas Dhamale highlighted that meditation and internal discipline are essential for journalists to uphold democratic values. Rajeshwari Didi advised journalists to maintain peace of mind, avoid addictions, and devote time to self-development.
Entrepreneur Santosh Pawar described the event as a platform for positive transformation. Journalist Ashok Sonawane emphasized the ongoing challenges to press freedom and the risks faced by reporters. Ujjwala Didi conducted a live Rajyoga demonstration to promote stress-free journalism.
All attendees received participation certificates, and Dr. Deepak Harke was honored for his entry into the Global Book of Excellence.
